Positions
on Public Policy
Companies practice extended product responsibility by seeking cost-effective means for increasing recyclable content of products and using other product stewardship principles. Industry believes that it is important that these actions remain voluntary because industry, working with other affected stakeholders, will produce better solutions more quickly, at less cost than those mandated by regulations. Producers can assist in informing stakeholders of the proper use, recycle or disposal options for their products. Consumers share responsibility for proper use and disposal of products. Governments share the responsibility to reduce regulatory impediments to the establishment of markets for proper recycling of products.
